As part of the Back to School Blog Tour, today, I'm hosting Martine Lewis, author of the Grey Eyes series!
Martine Lewis is a forty something who was born and raised in the French speaking province of Quebec, Canada. She spent her childhood looking forward to her summer vacations at the farm, which were a nice escape from the suburbs where she lived.
Her first written endeavor was a 200-page handwritten Duran Duran bandfiction, which she wrote when she was eleven years old. Of all her written work, this is the only one she no longer has.
Throughout high school, Martine wrote more bandfictions and some original work, then she went to write fanfictions in the Star Wars, Buffy and Harry Potter universes. Her fanfiction in the Potterverse are mostly centered on characters of her own creation and can be found on fanfiction.net.
Following her viewing of Roswell on Netflix in 2012, Martine wrote book two and three of the Gray Eyes Series, then went on to create the Gray Eyes Series universe in which she has been playing ever since. She writes contemporary coming-of-age romance fiction (young adult/new adult) with a twist.
Martine is an avid reader and roller skater. She loves sushi, hot chocolate on a cold day, and the beach. But what she loves above all else is to curl up on her chair with her computer and write more stories for her readers.
Martine currently lives in Houston TX with her two cats.
What are the name(s) or your books(s) and how you were inspired to write them?
Crossing the Barrier is the first one in the series, and it was inspired by my attending high school football games which I totally love.
Breaking the Mold, which is coming out on September 20, was actually the first one written, was inspired by the first 20 minutes of Roswell. In fact, the entire series was inspired by that TV show.
Who was your favorite children’s author and how did they influence you?
That would be JK Rowling. She allowed me to dream. I wrote quite a few fanfictions in the Harry Potter universe, and I think she made a lot of people discover a market that was under read before and not just middle grade and children's book, but also YA, which is what I write.
What is your most memorable school moment?
Nothing comes to mind, really. My school years were rather uneventful until I got to college.
Do you have a writing routine? Share what works for you.
I plan my books in advance and usually write the first in a month. On the off months, I do revision and editing. I write about 2 or 3 books a year that way.
Was there anything in school that was difficult for you?
Not really, surprisingly enough.
What is writing to you in one sentence?
Freedom, joy, dreams.
What projects are you working on right now?
I'm working on the third book in the Gray Eyes Series and also trying to finish the draft of the fourth book.
